Getting Here
Situated on the outer edge of the Hauraki Gulf is New Zealand’s only National Marine Park. Great Barrier Island is a mere 90 kilometres from Auckland City. Over 70% of the land is protected Conservation Park and with night skies rated ‘second to none’… the whole island is a Dark Sky Sanctuary.
Flights
Barrier Air run daily flights to the Island from Auckland Domestic Terminal.
Island Aviation run frequent flights from the North Shore.
The flights across the gulf are very scenic and take around 30 minutes.
Passengers will land at Claris Airport near the centre of the island
Ferry
The Sealink operates a passenger and vehicle ferry to and from the Island.
Services are limited, so check ahead of schedule to make sure the ferry is travelling on your dates.

The Island has an array of great rentals available with stunning scenery. Aotea is off-grid, so all homes produce their own power and collect their own water.
